Changes for ReadWrite, Remodelista & Gardenista

Today, Say Media closed a deal to sell ReadWrite to Wearable World. As some of you may recall, Say Media has partnered with Wearable World on hack-a-thons, and ReadWrite’s Editor-in-Chief Owen Thomas served as MC at the latest Wearable World Conference. With this move, the relationship deepens even further.

A San Francisco-based incubator, accelerator, event and media company, Wearable World is the central hub for all things wearable tech – and with ReadWrite added to the fold, this combined entity will serve developers, entrepreneurs, technologists, and consumers with a mission of promoting human connectivity, art, and community. We couldn’t think of a better place for ReadWrite to continue to grow and thrive.

And, considering Owen’s own enthusiasm for wearables – especially when it comes to fitness – it should be no surprise that he’ll be making the move as well, remaining as EIC, while assuming additional duties as Wearable World’s editorial director. The majority of his editorial staff will be joining him, and some of Wearable World’s own contributors will be added to the ReadWrite roster too.

Say Media will still have an active role in the future of ReadWrite. With this new agreement in place, the digital magazine will transition into a Tempest partner relationship, with Wearable World running direct sales internally.

In tandem, we’ve found a new home for Remodelista and Gardenista as well. Josh Groves and Julie Carlson, who founded Remodelista, and later launched Gardenista while with Say Media, have proven that their passion for the brands they’ve built is unwavering. So, we are pleased to report that we are selling these two properties back to their originators, effective today. Julie will continue to be Remodelista's EIC and Michelle Slatalla will remain Gardenista's. The rest of their editorial teams will carry on working with them in various ways, and Say Media will maintain sales operations for the brands and bring them custom content opportunities.

While we have shifted away from owning brands, we remain steadfast in our mission to make the internet a better place. Owen, Josh, Julie, Michelle and their teams are dedicated to this same mission and we have learned a great deal from them. We couldn’t be happier that they will remain part of the Say Media family and we have no doubt that we’ll continue to learn, and flourish, alongside each other in 2015 and beyond.
