Forbes released is third annual list of the 100 Best Websites for Women and of course two giants of women's media made the list: Jane Pratt's xoJane and Tavi Gevinson's Rookie Mag. Sites on the list had to offer informative and compelling content, smart design, engaged communities and a voice that speaks to and for the female reader. Or as the Forbes editors put it: "The true mark of great content is the kind that makes you step away from your desk and talk about it."
About the winners they wrote:
Rookie Mag Since 17 year old fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson founded the website for teenage girls in 2011, Rookie has featured teen writers and fashionistas alongside columns like ‘Ask A Grown Man/Woman’ with Jon Hamm and Paul Rudd. Each issue, curated around a theme, is a unique look back at the life of a modern teenager. As we like to say “never forget.”
xoJane Former Sassy Editor-in-Chief Jane Pratt gives us a women’s site as irreverent and informative as her previous lady mag that’s as heavy on the “It Happened To Me” as you’d expect. A smart stable of bloggers and Pratt’s celebrity friends keep the content fresh.
Congratulations to Tavi, Jane and the Rookie Mag and xoJane editorial teams. You can check out the full list here.
Update: Rookie also made the list for the 10 Best Sites for Millenial Women 2013.
