Kelsey, Kopecky Family Band
To hear and see the Kopecky Family Band is to be seduced by the irresistible folk-rock songs that keep you coming back for more. Every show is a different show – and it's always authentic. We were lucky enough to have them entertain us one night at SAY Create, our annual exclusive media event. And now we've asked them back for our rocking SXSW party.
Lead singer Kelsey Kopecky talked to us this weekend in anticipation of the band's upcoming appearance at SXSW:
How would you describe your sound in 140 characters or less? A modern day Fleetwood Mac of sorts. I hope that it is a moving listening experience, as all of our songs mean a great deal to us.
You're playing at SXSW this year. What do you love about playing in Austin and at SXSW? Playing in Austin brings back memories of the magic of SXSW in years past. There is an energy in downtown Austin that inspires me to explore on my own. This past January we played "The Parish," and I couldn't help but belly up to a bar at random. The people watching are wonderful.
What new bands are you loving right now? I've been listening to the English trio, Daughter, like crazy. Their songs are moody and all about love. I like to put on my headphones when I need a girl moment. Haha.
What's something your fans would be surprised to learn about you? Hmmm… That's a good question. I took American Sign Language in high school. I'm not fluent since so much time has passed, but I still find myself finger spelling words to people when I'm on vocal rest.
What else should we expect from the Kopecky Family Band in 2013? A WHOLE LOT OF LOVE! Come to one of our shows and let us hug you!
We filmed this interview with the band last year to hear about how they hone their craft.
If you're in Austin at SXSW, join us and the Kopecky Family Band on Monday March 11 at the Speakeasy – it's one party you won't want to miss.
